The Story

A reissue of Airey Neave's controversial account of the last-ditch stand that preceded Dunkirk. It was a battle in which only 60 British soldiers of the 3000 defending Calais on 25 May 1940 escaped death, wounding or capture at the end of the four day battle. After the battle, the Prime Minister Winston Churchill declared that without this stand the evacuation of the 330,000 from Dunkirk could never have taken place. In this book, Airey Neave gives a soldier's account of what could have been a costly mistake. Neave is also the author of "They Have Their Exits".
